Spring Programs at The Practice Space!

The Practice Space is kicking off our Spring programs on January 25, with after-school clubs for Youth Participants ages 8-16, and two online mini-courses for our Adult Participants! Most offerings are virtual and will be hosted via Zoom, with Middle School Speakers Club being hosted in-person*. Full-tuition scholarships for all programs are available based on financial need.

Youth Clubs

Young Speakers Club (ages 8-10), Online – Build confidence by practicing public speaking skills in our after-school club! Make friends and practice your choice of: storytelling, debate, or persuasive speeches. Have fun working together and becoming a better speaker!

Middle School Speakers Club (ages 11-14), MEETS IN PERSON* – Do you love being creative and using your own imagination? Join our Middle School Speakers Club! Learn and practice storytelling, poetry, and acting through creative exercises, games, projects, and guest speakers. Students of all experience levels are welcome.

  • Middle School Speakers Club is geared toward students ages 11-14
  • MEETS IN PERSON – At our office in El Cerrito, CA.
    • Participants need to be fully vaccinated prior to the first meeting. 
    • Masks required.

The Practice Space Podcast Club (ages 11-16), Online – Become part of The Practice Space Podcast, “Youth Aloud“! In this club, you’ll learn how to make a podcast and you will record episodes focused on important issues in the world. Members will also get a chance to host episodes, decide the topics we discuss, produce episodes, and publish Season 5 with a focus on young voices on current events!

The Practice Space Debate Club (ages 11-16), Online – Calling all debaters! This club is for 11-16 year olds who are interested in getting more practice with debate. Learn how to argue and feel more comfortable speaking off the top of your head. This club is open to beginners and intermediate students, so whether you already love debate or have always been curious but were too shy, this club is for you! Every week, we practice debating different topics and work together with partners in a fun, supportive environment. Open to students of all experience levels, including past club participants.

Adult Mini-Courses

Speaking in the Workplace, Online – Do you struggle to speak up at work? Do you dread public speaking, whether it be presentations, keynotes, or even participating in discussions? This class is specifically focused on building up your confidence and your presentation delivery skills, so you feel ready to speak up. Together, we will discuss common work scenarios, create your personalized preparation routine, and improve both our prepared presentation skills and our ability to speak on the spot. Every session is interactive in an intimate, small group session with a coach and plenty of practice time and practical techniques. Scholarships available. We welcome new and returning students, class capped at 16 people.

Serie de Oratoria Pública para Adultos, En linea – ¿Siempre has deseado ser un mejor orador que puede hablar en cualquier situación? ¿Tienes dificultad para hablar espontáneamente o te da ansiedad preparar presentaciones? ¡Aprende a preparar los fundamentos espontáneos y preparados en esta serie de práctica!

Cada semana alternamos entre discurso preparado y oratoria espontánea. En oratoria espontánea, se enfocará en escenarios de la vida real como hablar en juntas de trabajo o entrevistas, además de aprender a enlazar tus pensamientos y mantenerse calmado sin preparación. En oratoria preparada, trabajará en fortalecer su voz, usar gestos, preparar un resumen, y mantener habilidades lingüísticas mientras preparas un discurso sobre un tema de tu elección.

Cada sesión es interactiva en un grupo pequeño e íntimo con un instructor y mucho tiempo para practicar técnicas de aprendizaje. Hay becas disponibles. Invitamos a nuevos alumnos y ex-alumnos a que participen, la clase está limitada a 16 estudiantes, para todos las personas de habla hispana.
